Loos’s villa in Prague where the rooms lie at different heights, a Raumplan, and marble replaces ornament.

Adolf Loos wrote Ornament and Crime in 1908 and showed here how rich materials could take the place of ornament. The villa was restored in the 1990s and is a museum in Prague.

Materials: Marble, mahogany, lemonwood, plaster

Manufacture: The rooms were planned in three dimensions, with height according to use, and linked by short stairs.

The different floor levels visible from one room to the next.

The green cipollino marble – the pattern of the material as the only decoration.
