Bowl from the Guild of Handicraft

A hammered silver bowl with looping wire handles and a semi-precious stone, Arts and Crafts silver in its purest form.
Ashbee’s guild made silver by hand in London and Chipping Campden in 1888–1907. The forms were plain and practical but made with visible handwork. Examples are in the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Court Barn Museum in Chipping Campden.
Materials: Silver, enamel or semi-precious stone
Manufacture: Hand-raised from sheet; the handles bent from wire and fixed with small solderings.
The hammer marks showing in the surface – they were not smoothed away.
