René Lalique’s vase with naked dancing women in relief, in clear, frosted or opalescent glass.

René Lalique was first one of the great Art Nouveau jewellers. After 1910 he devoted himself to glass, making perfume bottles, vases and lamps in series with moulds.

Bacchantes of 1927 is Art Deco in classical dress: the bacchantes of antiquity in modern moulded glass. The signature reveals the age: R. Lalique before 1945, Lalique France after.

Materials: Moulded glass, clear, frosted or opalescent

Manufacture: Press-moulded or mould-blown at Lalique’s works in Wingen-sur-Moder in Alsace; the surface was matted with acid.

The relief of female figures round the vase.

The contrast between polished and frosted glass.

The signature R. Lalique, moulded or engraved under the foot; after 1945 only Lalique.
