Table lamp by W. A. S. Benson

An electric lamp in copper and brass by one of the first designers for industry.
Benson sold his lamps through Morris & Co. and Siegfried Bing’s Maison de l’Art Nouveau in Paris. His way of building many models from the same parts points towards industrial design. Lamps are in the Victoria and Albert Museum and the William Morris Gallery.
Materials: Copper, brass, opal or vaseline glass
Manufacture: Made at Benson’s Hammersmith factory from pressed and turned standard parts combined into different models.
The contrast between reddish copper and yellow brass, and the visible rivets and joints.
The glass shade, often from Powell’s glassworks, shaped like a flower.
