Water-lily lamp by Daum and Majorelle

A Nancy collaboration: a bronze base by Majorelle and glass shades by Daum.
Daum and Majorelle collaborated on lamps from about 1902, as electric light was entering homes. The lamps show the School of Nancy’s idea of nature as model. Examples are in the Musée de l’École de Nancy and the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nancy.
Materials: Gilt bronze, etched and painted cased glass
Manufacture: Majorelle’s workshop cast the base as a water-lily stem; Daum blew and etched the glass flowers.
The bronze stems bending like water plants, with glass flowers as shades.
The signatures: Daum Nancy in the glass and L. Majorelle in the bronze.
