Fazzoletto

The vase that looks like a fallen handkerchief – an icon of post-war Murano.

Fulvio Bianconi and Paolo Venini created Fazzoletto around 1949. The vase combined Murano’s old techniques with a new, playful formal language.

It has been made in countless colours and sizes and copied by many glassworks. The vase is protected by copyright, so only a drawing is shown.

Materials: Glass, often with inlaid threads of white glass (zanfirico) or in two colours

Manufacture: Made by Venini on Murano; a blown disc is folded and pleated while soft.

The wavy, drooping edges.

Inlaid white threads in spirals or a net pattern.
