Florian ware by William Moorcroft
Vases with flowers drawn in raised lines of slip and filled with deep blue glaze.
Moorcroft created Florian ware at James Macintyre & Co. in 1898, and Liberty sold it in London. The technique is still used by the Moorcroft factory. Examples are in the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Potteries Museum in Stoke-on-Trent.
Materials: Earthenware with slip and coloured glazes
Manufacture: The outlines were piped on as thin trails of slip (tube-lining); the fields between filled with colour.
The raised lines enclosing each flower, like the leading in a stained-glass window.
Moorcroft’s signature in green or blue under the base.
