Gallé’s mushroom lamp
Three glass ink-cap mushrooms growing from a wrought-iron base and lit from within.
Gallé made the Les Coprins lamp shortly before his death in 1904. It is counted among the most poetic lamps of Art Nouveau. One is in the Musée de l’École de Nancy.
Materials: Multi-layered cased glass, wrought iron
Manufacture: The caps were blown in layered glass and etched; the stems and base were wrought.
The mushrooms at three ages, from bud to open cap – an image of life’s course.
The light shines through the glass layers as through a mushroom’s thin flesh.
