Georg Jensen brooch

Georg Jensen brooch
Made by Georg Jensen Sølvsmedie, Public domain

Hammered silver with birds, grapes and leaves and a stone – the Danish Art Nouveau jewel.

Georg Jensen began with jewellery when he opened his workshop in 1904, and his brooches with birds and grapes quickly became popular. The stones were often inexpensive, such as moonstone and amber, since the form was what mattered.

Model numbers make it possible to identify the design, and the appearance of the marks changed over time. Later editions of the same models exist, and the earliest are the most sought after.
