Stand mixer
KitchenAid’s model K stand mixer of 1937, designed by Egmont Arens – the form survives today.
KitchenAid began as part of the Hobart company, which made industrial machines, and the first household mixer appeared in 1919. In 1937 the industrial designer Egmont Arens drew the model K, which was lighter and cheaper.
The form has changed very little since and is one of the best known in the kitchen. The design is protected, so only a drawing is shown.
