Lamp by René Lalique

Pressed frosted glass whose relief lights up when the lamp behind it is switched on.
Lalique moved from jewellery to glass and built a factory at Wingen-sur-Moder in Alsace. He made lamps and lighting for the liner Normandie and the Orient Express. Lamps are in the Musée Lalique and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
Materials: Pressed and satin-finished glass, nickel-plated or gilt bronze
Manufacture: The glass was pressed in steel moulds, frosted with acid and polished on the raised parts.
The relief barely shows when unlit but stands out clearly when the lamp is on.
The signature R. LALIQUE in the glass, moulded or engraved.
