Victoire, car mascot by Lalique

A woman’s head in pressed glass with hair swept back by speed, made to sit on a car.
Lalique made about thirty car mascots between 1925 and 1931, and Victoire is counted the finest. It has become a symbol of Art Deco and the motor car’s first golden age. Examples are in the Musée Lalique and the Corning Museum of Glass.
Materials: Pressed and frosted glass, sometimes tinted
Manufacture: Pressed in a mould, frosted and polished; it could be lit from below by a lamp in the mount.
The hair streaming back in straight angular bands – speed turned into form.
The moulded signature R. LALIQUE FRANCE along the base.
