Lange 1

The first wristwatch from A. Lange & Söhne after its revival, with an outsize date.
When Walter Lange revived the family firm after German reunification, the first watches were shown in 1994. The Lange 1 had a dial on which time, date and power reserve sat side by side.
The large date took up an idea from the five-minute clock in the Semperoper in Dresden. The watch became the symbol of the return of Saxon watchmaking.
Materials: Gold or platinum, sapphire crystal; hand-wound mechanical movement
Manufacture: Made in Glashütte in Saxony; the movement is decorated and assembled by hand.
The asymmetric dial where nothing overlaps.
The large date in two windows.
The three-quarter plate of untreated German silver.
The movement has a three-quarter plate of German silver, a Saxon tradition, and the balance cock is hand-engraved. The dial is asymmetric: no display overlaps another.
A. Lange & Söhne had been nationalised in East Germany, and the Lange 1 showed that the Saxon art of watchmaking in Glashütte could be revived after reunification.
The time dial is on the left, the large date in two windows at the top right, the power reserve on the right and the small seconds hand at the bottom.
The Lange 1 has been made with moon phase, time zone and tourbillon and in several metals.
