Panerai had developed a luminous paint, Radiomir, and made watches for the navy's divers at the end of the 1930s. They had to be read in dark water. The watches long remained military secrets and became civilian only in the 1990s.
Materials: Steel, luminous paint; hand-wound movement
Manufacture: The first cases and movements came from Rolex; the dials were painted in Florence.
