Panerai

Florentine watch brand that made watches for Italian navy divers, known for the Radiomir and Luminor.

Giovanni Panerai opened a watchmaker's shop on the Ponte alle Grazie in Florence, and the firm became a supplier of precision instruments to the Italian navy. In the 1930s it made luminous dials and watches for combat divers.

The Radiomir and Luminor were large diving watches with easily read dials, and the Luminor had a bridge that protected the crown. Panerai became a civilian brand in the 1990s and is part of Richemont.
