Praktika
The tableware of functionalism: pieces that stack and can be used for many things.
Wilhelm Kåge designed Praktika in 1933 on the basis of how cramped working-class flats actually functioned. The pieces were to stack, have several uses and be cheap.
The service did not sell particularly well – customers wanted more decoration – but it became a model for how to design for everyday life.
Materials: Earthenware
Manufacture: Factory-made at Gustavsberg.
The bowls nest inside one another and save space in the cupboard.
The same bowl is used in the kitchen, in the oven and on the table.
Simple forms, thin stripes and almost no decoration.
