Quad ESL-63

The electrostatic loudspeaker with concentric rings that refined the original.

The ESL-63 built on the first electrostatic loudspeaker of 1957. The panel has ring-shaped electrodes that make it sound like a point source, and it can be placed more freely in the room than its predecessor.

The speaker was made until 1999 and counts as one of the most sophisticated of its kind.

Materials: Steel frame, thin film, ring-shaped electrodes

Manufacture: Made by Quad in Huntingdon, England, from 1981.
