Sony CDP-101

The first CD player on sale, with the disc placed in a drawer.
Sony and Philips had developed the CD standard together. The CDP-101 was Sony’s first player and came out in Japan in October 1982, at the same time as the format.
The disc is read by a laser without anything touching it, which gives noise-free sound. The player was the beginning of the end for the vinyl record as the main format.
