Three cats waiting by a bowl of milk, for sterilised milk from Vingeanne.

Steinlen loved cats and drew them often. The poster shows three of them looking at a bowl of milk, an image that is easy to recognise and remember.

The milk was sterilised and sold as a way to get clean milk. The advertising made a product from a small dairy into one of the city’s best-known posters.

Materials: Colour lithograph on paper

Manufacture: Printed as a colour lithograph in Paris in 1894.
