Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen

Draughtsman and poster artist

Swiss-French artist of Montmartre, known for the cats on the Le Chat Noir poster.

Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen moved to Paris in 1881 and drew for cabarets and satirical papers.

His images of workers and the poor made him a socially committed artist, but cats became his best-known subject.
