Trellis
William Morris's first wallpaper: a rose trellis with birds.
Morris designed Trellis in 1862, inspired by the trellises in the garden at Red House, his home. The wallpaper was issued in 1864.
The pattern is simpler than Morris's later wallpapers, with a clear grid. It shows how he took his motifs from the garden.
Materials: Paper, distemper
