Tupperware
Plastic containers with a lid that closes airtight, like the lid of a paint tin.
Earl Tupper worked with polyethylene, a new material after the war, and developed an airtight lid. The containers came out in 1946.
They sold poorly in shops. Only when they were sold at home parties, where the sellers showed how the lid worked, did they become a success.
Materials: Polyethylene
Manufacture: Injection-moulded plastic.
The lid that is pressed on and lets the air out.
The soft, semi-transparent plastic.
Pieces that nest inside one another and stack.
