The small, rounded car that became Sweden's people's car after the war.

Volvo showed the PV444 at an exhibition in Stockholm in 1944, and thousands of orders came in. It became Volvo's first great success and was replaced by the PV544.

Materials: Steel monocoque body; four-cylinder engine

Manufacture: Made in Gothenburg; shown in 1944 but in series production from 1947.

The PV444 was Volvo’s first car with a self-supporting body. The four-cylinder engine was of 1.4 litres.

The PV544 from 1958 received a one-piece windscreen and a four-speed gearbox, and the Duett was an estate and van on the same basis.
