Silver jug by Wiwen Nilsson

Functionalism in silver: smooth, angular surfaces without ornament, from a workshop in Lund.

Wiwen Nilsson trained in Paris among other places and took over his father’s goldsmith’s workshop in Lund. From the 1920s he made silver with geometric, faceted forms.

He is regarded as the foremost Swedish silversmith in the functionalist spirit. His work is protected by copyright, so only a drawing is shown.

Materials: Silver, handle of blackened wood or ivory

Manufacture: Handmade in Wiwen Nilsson’s workshop in Lund.

Straight, angular surfaces that reflect light differently.

No ornament at all; the form is the decoration.
