Flos
Founded in Merano by Dino Gavina and Cesare Cassina, among others. Makes the Castiglioni brothers’ lamps, such as Arco, Taccia and Toio.
Flos was founded to make lamps in a material called cocoon, a sprayed plastic on a steel frame. The Castiglioni brothers designed lamps such as Taraxacum and Viscontea in the material.
Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni then designed Arco, Toio and Taccia for the company, often using everyday parts such as a car headlamp or a fishing rod. Later Philippe Starck, Jasper Morrison and others designed lamps for Flos.
A label or embossed marking on the base; the Arco’s marble base has a hole so that two people can lift it with a pole.
