Arco
The floor lamp that reaches over the dining table without a ceiling outlet.
The Castiglioni brothers wanted a ceiling lamp over the table, but without making a hole in the ceiling. They took a street lamp as a model and set it on a heavy marble base.
The lamp was launched by Flos in 1962. It is a typical example of the brothers' way of solving problems with simple, slightly unexpected means.
Materials: Marble, stainless steel and aluminium
Manufacture: The base is cut from a block of marble; the arc is steel in sections that slide into one another.
The marble block as a counterweight, with a hole through which a pole can be passed to carry it.
The arc, high enough to walk under.
The reflector with small holes that let the heat out.
