Brionvega RR126

Brionvega RR126
Robert-brook, CC0

The Castiglioni brothers’ radiogram on castors, with speakers that sit like ears on the sides.

Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni designed the RR126 as a piece of furniture you could wheel around the room. With the speakers on the sides it looks like a smiling face – a playful comment on the heavy radio cabinets.

Brionvega was one of the Italian firms that hired the best designers for radio and television, and the RR126 is one of the best-known objects of the 1960s. It is in several museum collections.

Materials: Wood laminate, plastic, aluminium, castors

Manufacture: Made by Brionvega in Milan from 1965–66; still made in a reissue.
