Rug by Märta Måås-Fjetterström

Rugs from Båstad that combined Scanian folk tradition with modern, stylised nature.
Märta Måås-Fjetterström opened her weaving workshop in Båstad in 1919. She designed hundreds of patterns for rugs and textiles, woven by employed weavers.
The rugs were expensive art objects and became part of modern Swedish interiors, in homes, churches and public buildings. They are sold at auction today and are recognised by the woven initials.
Materials: Wool on a linen warp, in flat-weave, pile or half-pile
Manufacture: Hand-woven in the workshop in Båstad, where the designs are still woven.
Stylised plants, flowers and landscapes.
Soft, muted colours: rust, ochre, green and blue.
Woven initials – MMF – and often the weaver’s signature in a corner.
