Braun
Max Braun’s company in Frankfurt; from the 1950s, with Dieter Rams and Hans Gugelot, the model of functional, austere design.
Max Braun started a workshop for radio parts in Frankfurt and then made radios and electric shavers. After his death in 1951 his sons Artur and Erwin Braun took over and committed to a new, austere design.
With Hans Gugelot from the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Ulm and Dieter Rams, Braun's products gained simple forms, light colours and clear controls. The SK 4 radio-gramophone, the T3 radio, the ET 66 calculator and the KM 3 kitchen machine became models of functional design, and Rams's ten principles of good design are still quoted today.
