Bugatti
Ettore Bugatti’s factory at Molsheim in Alsace; the Type 35 racing car and the Royale luxury car. His son Jean designed the Type 57 Atlantic.
Ettore Bugatti, son of the furniture designer Carlo Bugatti, set up his factory in Molsheim, which then belonged to Germany. The cars combined light construction with sculptural design, and he regarded them as works of art.
The Type 35 of 1924 became one of the most successful racing cars, and the Royale of 1927 one of the largest and most expensive cars ever built. After Jean Bugatti's death in 1939 and the war the factory never recovered. The name was revived much later and is now part of a jointly owned group with Rimac.
