Louis Comfort Tiffany

Glass artist and designer

American artist known for opalescent glass, leaded-glass lamps and stained-glass windows.

Louis Comfort Tiffany was the son of the founder of the jewellers Tiffany & Co. but became a painter and then a glass artist. He patented his iridescent Favrile glass in 1894.

His workshops, from 1902 Tiffany Studios in New York, made windows, vases and the lamps with leaded-glass shades that became the hallmark of American Art Nouveau.
